World Diabetes Day is celebrated on November 14 each year. Because of the the escalating health threat that diabetes globally, this day is meant to increase awareness about Diabetes disease and how to manage.

Why do we celebrate World Diabetes Day?

Because Diabetes is a health condition with negative impact on the population globally. Diabetes is recognized as the world’s fastest growing chronic condition. The number of people with type 2 diabetes is growing in each country. In 2013, diabetes caused 1.5 million deaths globally. Higher blood glucose levels also caused an additional 2.2 million deaths, by increasing the risks of cardiovascular and other diseases. So, we have a day, yearly, to be raise awareness about the condition, how to manage not to be Diabetic and who to manage if you are diabetic.

About World Diabetes Day

It was created in 1991 by the World Health Organization. World Diabetes Day was found in response to the escalating health threat posed by diabetes. Then it became an official United Nations Day in 2006 with the passage of United Nation Resolution 61/225. It is marked every year on 14 November, which is the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who co-discovered insulin along with Charles Best in 1922.

What to do in that day 2022?

World Diabetes Day provides us an opportunity to raise awareness of diabetes and learn more to manage and control this important health issue. Many things need to be done at the level of governments and individually, for better prevention, diagnosis and management of the condition.

This year’s World Diabetes Day is taking place at the end of a year which is 101 years from the discovery of insulin, but still there is more to be done to make insulin available for those who need it, and also the tolls like blood glucose meters and test strips.
