New symptoms of Covid-19

According to a recent  study, published in scientific journals and media, three new symptoms have been seen, which may be considered early indicators of COVID-19.

According to the study, conducted at La Paz University Hospital in Spain in Madrid, signs appeared on the patient’s tongue, hands and feet that could indicate infection. The study was conducted on 666 patients infected with Covid-19 virus at the hospital in Madrid. Researchers found that one in four patients, (25%) complained of tongue swelling, a burning sensation in the palm of the hand, and redness on the soles of the feet.

Covid Tongue

The symptoms that were observed during the study, were caused by a severe injury in the mouth, causing mouth swelling, white spots on the tongue and inflammation in the oral cavity. The new symptoms, (ulcers and inflammation of the tongue and mouth), were called “Covid Tongue”.

Researchers recorded that approximately 15% of those patients, also complained of burning and redness in the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet, with  small red spots in the same areas.

A professor of genetic epidemiology at King’s College London in the United Kingdom, said that many Covid-19 patients reported to him that they had problems in the mouth, such as discoloration and enlargement of the tongue.

He said in a tweet: “I see an increasing number of people with Covid-19 who have strange mouth ulcers. My mail is full of pictures of tongues from people suffering from tongue problems that coincided with symptoms of Covid disease, such as fever and fatigue”.

According to him, 35% of people with Covid-19 suffered from unusual symptoms in the first three days of infection, such as a rash, redness of the toes, many of those symptoms were ignored.

It should be noted that the US Center for Disease Control, (CDC), did not include the appearance of symptoms such as swollen or discolored tongues among the symptoms of Covid-19.
